Former President Yoon tells supporters, ”Our efforts to protect freedom and sovereignty will be engraved in history” (South Korea)
On the 6th, former South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol sent a message to his supporters, the People's Defenders Association, saying, "Your path of fighting to protect freedom and sovereignty is the great legacy of the Republic of Korea.
"I remember the first screams of the people who filled Cheonggye Plaza.
"Even while in detention, my heart was with you all," he said. "I want to thank all of you who are acting with a strong conviction to defend freedom and sovereignty in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Daejeon and other parts of the country.
"I saw people standing up in the streets and in schools screaming, and I heard young students screaming," he said. Yoon said he was deeply moved by the actions of those who supported him, saying, "I braved the wind and rain to get out of the house."
"I was moved to tears by the strong feelings of each and every one of those who continued their fast while praying and those who demonstrated their firm resolve by cutting their hair," he said. "I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone for their strong support and encouragement.
"I feel sorry and regretful," he said. In particular, he had a message for the younger generation, saying, "Young people, you are the protagonists of this country and its future. Even if the current reality is tough, never give up.
"I want you to have confidence and courage," he said. "As long as you young people do not lose your courage, our future is bright. I have retired from the presidency, but I will always be grateful for your support."
"I am here with you. Let's work hard together. Thank you," he concluded his message. This is Yoon's second message since the Constitutional Court impeached him on the 4th. Yoon currently lives in the Hankyoreh, Seoul.
He is believed to be resting at his official residence in Minami-dong.
