Actor Yoo Yeon-seok has paid the full 3 billion won in taxes levied against him.

　On the 10th (today), Yoo Yeon-seok's agency, King Kong by Starship, clarified in an interview with Korean media, “This tax levy was not for the purpose of tax evasion or omission, but a case that started due to a difference of opinion regarding the analysis and application of tax laws."

　His agency explained, “As a result of a positive summons through legal procedures, the double taxation was recognized through a pre-taxation review, the levied tax amount was recalculated, and the taxes actually paid by Yoo Yong-seok, excluding already-paid corporate tax and additional tax, were approximately 3 billion won in full.

　He also stated, “Since 2015, Yoo Yeon-seok has developed and produced YouTube content as an extension of his entertainment activities, and established a corporation for the purpose of additional business based on this content and restaurant business, and has been engaged in various activities,” and added, “This is considered as an individual income tax payment and not a corporate tax payment, so the total income tax has been assessed. The National Tax Agency is currently preparing for a tax tribunal and legal proceedings regarding the interpretation and application of the law and related issues.

　Earlier, the National Tax Agency conducted a tax investigation and notified Yoo Yeon-seok of approximately 7 billion won (approximately 700 million yen) in the process of establishing his entertainment agency, Forever Entertainment, after determining that there was a tax payment problem. According to a Korean media outlet on the same day, Yoo Yeon-seok was assessed 6.3 billion won, less than the 7 billion initially known, and as a result of requesting a tax suitability review, he was found to be double taxed and refunded approximately 2.4 billion won in corporate tax and some other taxes.

　His agency added, “Yoo Yeon-seok has been diligently fulfilling his tax obligations as his top priority and principle, and he will continue to thoroughly observe the relevant laws and procedures as a citizen and fulfill his responsibilities in the future."
