Road collapses near Ewok Station in Seoul... No casualties (South Korea)
On April 13, a sinkhole measuring approximately 40 centimeters in diameter and 130 centimeters deep occurred on the roadway next to Exit 2 of Eogye Station in Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea.
According to Mapo Police Station, a report was received at around 8:50 a.m. that a road had collapsed near Eogye Station. The Seoul Western Road Office has completed emergency repairs at the accident site.
The company said, "We believe the collapse occurred when a crack appeared in an aging sewer pipe, causing water to leak out."
Strong winds and rain continued to fall on and off in the central region, and damage was also caused by strong winds in Seoul.
The building materials and rooftop ventilation fan exhaust panel fell due to strong winds. According to the condominium management office, "There were no casualties, and the fallen equipment was retrieved."
On the same morning, a collapse also occurred on a road in Sasang-gu, Busan.
So, similar accidents had occurred many times last year. The hole is 5 meters wide, 3 meters long, and 5 meters deep.
The road, which had not shown any particular abnormality, collapsed around 5 a.m. on the 13th, and no one was injured.
The collapse was serious enough that four lanes had to be closed. The site of the collapse is near the construction site for the Sasang-Hadang urban railway line in Busan.
After five months of investigation into the cause of the accident, the city of Busan determined that the cause was torrential rain and inadequate water-stopping construction methods.
The disappearance phenomenon has been repeated for the 13th, further increasing public anxiety.
