President Moon's daughter sentenced to fine for drunk driving and illegal lodging business in South Korea
Moon Da-hae (42), the daughter of former South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who has been indicted on charges of drunk driving and operating an illegal lodging business, was sentenced to a fine in the first trial.
On the 17th, the Western District Court of Seoul sentenced Moon, who was indicted on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act and violation of the Public Health Management Act, to a fine of 15 million won (approximately 1.51 million yen).
The court said, "The defendant engaged in drunk driving and operated a lodging business without reporting it in three locations, so the crimes are not light. His blood alcohol level was high, and he had been operating the lodging business for a long period of time.
"However, the fact that the defendant has admitted his mistake and is deeply remorseful is a disadvantage," he added. "The fact that he has no criminal record prior to this incident is also a major factor.
The prosecution also requested that Moon be given a one-year prison sentence at his first hearing at the Seoul Western District Court last month.
Immediately after the sentence was handed down, Moon left the court without answering questions from reporters. Moon was arrested in front of a hotel in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, Seoul on October 5 last year.
He was accused of driving while drunk and changing lanes, resulting in him colliding with a taxi behind him (drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act).
At the time of the accident, the blood alcohol content exceeded the license revocation limit (0.08%).
In addition, the company was fined 103.6 billion yen for operating illegal lodging facilities in an office and villa in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, and a detached house in Jeju over a five-year period.
Moon was also accused of receiving a profit of 13 million won (approximately 13.68 million yen). At the first hearing, he said, "I admit all my mistakes and deeply regret them," and "I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy to the victims who were harmed because of me."
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and asked for appropriate action.
