Taxi driver who refused to let passenger in and continued to drive while dragging him faces prison sentence in South Korea
A taxi driver who refused to let a passenger into his taxi and then dragged him for about 40 meters was sentenced to prison.
According to the Korean legal profession on the 22nd, the Seoul Western District Court indicted a man on suspicion of special injury on the 26th of last month.
The court held a sentencing hearing for Defendant A (67), who is accused of a traffic violation, and sentenced him to eight months in prison. Defendant A was working as a taxi driver in September last year when he was driving in the direction of Yeongdeungpo.
The driver refused to let passenger B (29) board the bus, who said, "I want to get in," and left the scene. In the process, the driver is suspected of dragging B while driving, causing injuries that will require six weeks of treatment.
During the police investigation, Mr. B was leaning against the taxi's passenger seat, holding onto the window frame with his right hand, but Defendant A stepped on the accelerator and the car was pushed back about 40 meters.
On the other hand, Defendant A stated, "It was my last day at work, so I thought I would pick her up if we were going in the same direction, but we were heading in a different direction, so I immediately drove off in the taxi."
"I never tried to grab the taxi to stop it, I just fell and injured myself while trying to chase the taxi," he claimed.
According to CCTV footage from the area where the accident occurred, B approached the taxi and sat in the passenger seat.
While Mr. B was talking to Defendant A with his hands on the window frame, the taxi suddenly started to move. It was also observed that the taxi suddenly sped up, Mr. B ran for 5 seconds and then fell to the ground.
In addition, the victim's companion stated that "the victim was being dragged so I yelled out." A foreign witness who was walking nearby also told police, "I heard a scream."
" After considering all of the evidence, the court determined that the fact that Defendant A had driven a taxi and injured the victim was sufficiently established, and
The court did not accept the claim. The court stated, "Even if the driver had seriously injured the victim by driving at high speed while dragging her as she was trying to get into a taxi, the investigative agency did not bring the case to this court.
He continued to shift the blame onto the victim until the very end, shows no remorse for his crime, and has made no attempt to redress the damage caused," the court said in explaining the reason for the sentence.
