On the 22nd, the People's Power Election Commission announced the results of the first primary election (cutoff) to narrow down the presidential candidates from eight to four.
Candidates Kim Moon-soo, Han Dong-hoon, and Hong Joon-pyo, who formed the ``big three'' in opinion polls, easily advanced to the second primary election.
Candidates Na Kyung-won and Ahn Cheol-soo appeared to be competing for the remaining seat, but Ahn made it into the final four.
Along with candidate Ra, candidates Yang Hyang-ja, Yoo Jeong-bok, and Lee Cheol were also eliminated.
The first primary election was held over two days, from the 21st to the 22nd, and was conducted by a 100% public opinion polling method. Five polling agencies each polled 800 people,
A total of 4,000 people were surveyed and average values were calculated. To prevent adverse selection, the survey subjects were limited to supporters of the People's Power Party and independents.
The results of the primary election were released and tallied under the watchful eye of each candidate's representatives.
The election commission did not disclose the rankings of the candidates or the percentage of votes they received. The second primary election will be held on the 27th and 28th, with 50% votes from party members and 50% from the public opinion poll.
However, if no candidate receives a majority of the votes, a party member vote and a national opinion poll will be held on May 1-2 for the top two candidates, and the results will be announced on the 29th.
The final candidates will be decided at the party convention.
