Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung visited Honam, known as the Democratic Party's stronghold, for two days from the 24th and met with local voters.
Candidate Lee will visit the Saemangeum 33 Center in Cheolbuk-do (North Jeolla Province) in the morning today (24th) to hold a renewable energy discussion meeting. In the afternoon, he will visit the Gwangju
Tomorrow (25th), he will visit the Jeollanam-do Agricultural Technology Institute, completing a two-day, one-night schedule. During this schedule, Lee is expected to announce his pledges for the Jeolla region and appeal for the support of Jeolla-do residents.
Candidate Lee recorded a cumulative vote share of 89.56% in the combined primary elections in Chungcheong-do and Yeongnam-do last weekend, solidifying the “Lee Jae-myung presidency.”
With the Democratic Party's election campaign now halfway through, candidate Lee, who has received nearly 90% of the votes, is likely to be confirmed as the presidential candidate.
In the preparatory elections, the party recorded a vote turnout of 90.81%, and attention is focused on whether it can surpass this turnout in Jeolla Province, which is a voting base for the Democratic Party.
On the 27th, the final day of the primary election, the Democratic Party of Korea held a primary election in Honam, the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon Province, and Jeju Province.
The final results will be announced by adding up 50% of the votes of the Right Party members, including the results of the primary elections in the United States and the 50% of the national opinion polls. If a candidate receives a majority of the votes, the presidential candidate will be decided on the spot.
Meanwhile, Kim Dong-yeon and Kim Kyung-soo, who are rivals in the party's primary elections, have already made pledges to the Jeolla region and are gaining support from local residents there.
On the 21st, Kim Dong-yeon promised to incorporate the spirit of the Gwangju Uprising into the constitution and to build a transportation network in the Honam region. On the 22nd, Kim Kyung-soo became the first among the Democratic Party candidates to declare his support for Jeolla Province.
During his visit, he emphasized the party's election pledges of "balanced development without regional disparities" and "creation of five major regional megacities."
