The history of Hyundai's Genesis, Korea's leading luxury car
Hyundai Motor has established its luxury car brand, Genesis, in the global luxury car market within 10 years of its launch. Genesis has improved the image of mid-range and low-priced Korean-made cars.
It is a memorable car model. Genesis invested about 500 billion won (about 49,935,390,000 yen) and employed about 4,000 research personnel until the first model was released in November 2015.
This was a project that would put the company's future on the line. The goal from the beginning was overseas. In August 2016, the first model, the "G90," was released in the United States. Since then, the company has been strengthening its presence while selling the "G Series."
Currently, it is sold in more than 17 countries, including not only Korea but also Europe, the US, China, and Australia. Sales of the G90 were only 384 units, but it is expected to reach 100,000 units in 2020 and 100,000 units in 2021.
In 2020, the company will launch its first sports utility vehicle (SUV), the GV80, followed by its first SUV in September 2021.
The company has also begun sales of its electric vehicle (EV) "G60." It is also actively engaged in marketing. In November 2021, it will open a multi-cultural space called "Genesis House New York" in New York, USA.
The facility not only displays train cars, but also has restaurants, a library, a performance space, a terrace garden, and more, making it a popular local attraction.
