The central election strategy committee for Democratic Party of Korea presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung will be officially launched on the 30th. It is expected that the selection process will focus on conservative and "non-Lee Jae-myung" candidates.
The Democratic Party of Korea will hold a ceremony to launch its election strategy committee for the 21st presidential election in the National Assembly Building at 2 p.m. on the 30th, and will make public the personnel of the election strategy committee.
In order to highlight the composition of the election strategy committee, which is centered on Lee Jae-myung, there are no plans to issue any special policy messages.
The inclusion of Park Young Ji, a former Democratic Party lawmaker, in the election campaign committee has already been made official. This personnel move shows candidate Lee's intention to unite.
Another representative figure who is not a member of the Lee Jae Myung faction is Kim Gi-hyun of Gyeongsangnam-do.
Former Governor Lee Hyung-soo and former Prime Minister Kim Boo-gyeom will join as election campaign committee chairs. Former lawmaker Kwon Oh-eul, a conservative figure and pro-Yoo Seung Min, will also support the election campaign.
Many of the people appointed are current lawmakers, including floor leader Park Chang-dae as chairman of the general election campaign committee, senior supreme committee member Kim Min-Seok as general headquarters director, and secretary-general Kim Yoon-deok in charge of general affairs.
In addition, Jeong Eun-kyung, former head of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Kang Geum-sil, former Minister of Justice, will serve as general election campaign committee chairs, and Woo Sang-ho, former Democratic Party lawmaker, will join as standing election campaign committee chair.
It is expected that the election committee will be made up of a mix of centrists and conservatives, with these six election committee chairpersons at the core. Candidate Lee has previously said that he will appoint people who are focused on their ability to get things done.
On the 27th, after the Democratic Party of Japan secured victory in the primary election, in response to a question from reporters about the composition of the election campaign committee, the Democratic Party distanced itself from the issue, saying, "The party will take the lead."
However, he said, "We should work as broadly and with as many people as possible." In his victory acceptance speech after the party election, he said, "We have no time to be tied down by principles and ideology and to keep repeating divisions and conflicts."
Candidate Lee expressed his intention to unite the party. During the party's primary election process to select the candidate for the 20th presidential election in 2021, he was in conflict with former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon and was unable to effectively bring about party unity.
The general view in political circles is that the internal conflicts that occurred during the party election process had a negative impact even after he was confirmed as the party's presidential candidate.
In response to this, it appears that the government is making every effort to reduce risks, including quickly embarking on an expansion of the area.
