Kim Seong-jin (33), suspected of brandishing a weapon and killing a woman in her 60s at a supermarket in Mia-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, was arrested and arraigned by the prosecution.
On the morning of the 1st, Gangbuk Police Station in Seoul arrested and sent Kim to the prosecution on charges of murder and attempted murder. According to the police, Kim was arrested at 6:20 pm on the 22nd of last month at the Gangbuk branch of the Seoul Police Station.
He is suspected of brandishing a weapon that was on display inside a supermarket near Mia Station in Kita Ward, killing a woman in her 60s and injuring a woman in her 40s.
Immediately after the crime, Kim reportedly smoked a cigarette in an alley next to a supermarket and reported the incident to the police.
"Should we track this location?" and "I stabbed two people at the supermarket." Kim, who had drunk soju that was on display at the supermarket just before the crime, brandished the murder weapon.
He then reportedly placed it on a candy display stand in front of the store before leaving the scene. At the time of the crime, Kim, who was wearing a hospital gown, was reportedly hospitalized at a nearby plastic surgery clinic.
During the police investigation, it was found that Kim's statements were not clear. The police conducted an illegal drug test and collected Kim's hair and urine for submission to the National Forensic Science Center.
The police requested a detailed examination from the research institute. They also investigated the specific motive for the crime through forensic analysis of cellphones and investigations by crime analysts. They also reportedly conducted psychopath diagnostic tests.
Prior to this, the Seoul Northern District Court issued an arrest warrant for Kim on the 24th of last month, citing "flight concerns."
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency later stated, "The brutality of the crime and the seriousness of the damage have been recognized, and evidence of the crime has been obtained.
"It is sufficient," and Kim's face, name, and age were made public, saying, "Disclosure of his identity is necessary for the public interest, including crime prevention."
