South Korea's ruling party criticizes Democratic Party for Lee Jae-myung's request to postpone trial as ”parliamentary dictatorship”

In response to Lee's indication that he will not hesitate to impeach the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, he strongly criticized the move, saying, "This clearly demonstrates the reality of Lee Jae-myung's parliamentary dictatorship."
At a general assembly meeting that afternoon, emergency response committee chairman Kwon Young-sei said, "The Democratic Party of Korea is leading the impeachment of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
"They appeared to have once retracted their decision after receiving strong public backlash, but now they are pressuring the government to postpone Lee's sentencing until after the presidential election," he said. "They are even trying to manipulate the judiciary to suit Lee's will.
He added, "If such forces were to take control of the government, it would be frightening to imagine what the country's future would be. A dictatorship of Mr. Lee, by Mr. Lee, for Mr. Lee would be completed.
He warned, "This election is a critical juncture that will determine the fate of our people and our country. Therefore, now is the time for all those who share the same cause to unite."
Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, also said, "The Democratic Party has temporarily put off impeachment of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, but this does not mean that we have given up on impeachment, but rather that we are taking the situation hostage, threatening in a terrorist-like manner.
"Their real aim is to postpone Lee's trial until after the presidential election," he said.
Kwon said, "If Lee is sentenced to a fine of more than 1 million won, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court will be the one to decide whether to accept the fine or not.
"We intend to impeach Lee and his allies and block the Supreme Court from deciding on a date for the third trial," he said. "We will stand together and thwart the attempt by Lee and his allies to seize state power and thwart the illegitimate parliamentary
