Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung: ”Medical students, please protect the medical education field” (South Korea)
On the 6th, Lee Jae-myung, presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, protested against the government's policy to increase the number of medical school students, and appealed to medical school students who have not returned to classes to "return to the medical education field."
In a post on her blog that day, Lee said, "Leave the tough battle to me and I want you all to continue studying and preparing to protect the lives of the people."
Candidate Lee said, "The problem started with the 2,000-person increase in medical school enrollment, which was imposed without any scientific evidence or preparation on the part of medical education providers. Politics will definitely answer the questions you have raised."
He also emphasized that "we need to hold those responsible accountable, establish a reasonable compensation system, improve the medical communication system, improve the training environment for medical residents, and discuss essential medical policies based on the opinions of the people involved and sufficient social consensus."
"We need to start again. This is not just a task for medical students, it is a national task," he said. Candidate Lee also spoke about the People Power Party's presidential candidate Kim Moon-soo.
He also wrote to his assistant, "Let's work together to abide by this promise to normalize medical care. That is the minimum responsibility that politicians should have before the people."
He continued, "To achieve this, you (medical students) must return first and secure your seats.
If I am entrusted with the responsibility and authority, I will definitely keep this promise," he added.
