43% of South Koreans support Lee Jae-myung as next president... 49% say it's necessary for ruling party to unify candidate
On the 8th, the results of a public opinion poll were announced stating that Lee Jae-myung, the next presidential candidate of the largest opposition party, the Democratic Party of Korea, continues to lead the way in terms of "suitability for the next president."
The survey was conducted by four Korean opinion polling companies, Mbrain Public, KEI Stat Research, Korea Research, and Korea Research, on the 5th to 7th of this month, targeting 1,000 men and women aged 18 or older.
According to the National Barometer Survey (NBS) conducted in 2018, candidate Lee Jae-myung received 43% of votes as the most suitable person to be the next president.
Candidate Lee Jae-myung's approval rating rose 1 percentage point from last week (42%), reaching its highest this year.
Next was former Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, who announced his candidacy as an independent, who recorded 23% approval rating. Han's approval rating was 13% the week before he announced his candidacy.
In addition, Kim Moon-soo of the ruling People Power Party recorded 12% and Lee Jun-seok of the New Reform Party recorded 5%.
Candidate Lee Jae Myung also took the lead in the "virtual three-way battle." In the three-way battle between Lee Jae Myung, Kim Moon Soo and Lee Jun Seok, candidate Lee Jae Myung received 43% and Kim Moon Soo received 46%.
Candidate Mu Moon-soo received 29% and candidate Lee Jun-seok received 7%. In the three-way battle between Lee Jae-myung, Han Deok-soo and Lee Jun-seok, candidate Lee Jae-myung received 44% and Han Deok-soo received 51%.
Former Prime Minister Lee Soo-suk received 34% of the votes, while candidate Lee Jun-seok received 6%. Meanwhile, 49% of conservatives said it was necessary to unify the candidates from the ruling party, and 10% said it was not.
The answer "yes" was calculated at 35%.
