A company commuter bus traveling on the road toward Ulsan Airport collided with a small sports utility vehicle (SUV) that was turning left from the right.
Of the 29 people on board, 27 from the commuter bus and two from the SUV, 19 died in the accident.
The driver of the SUV, a man in his 60s, was seriously injured and is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. Police believe the driver of the commuter bus violated traffic signals.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation. At around 11:27 a.m. on the same day, an SUV in Shinjeong-dong, Nam-gu, crossed the center line and collided with a car on the opposite side.
The car collided with four other vehicles, resulting in a pile-up accident. The driver of the SUV was seriously injured and taken to hospital, while the five passengers in the affected vehicles suffered minor injuries.
Police believe that the driver of the SUV fell asleep at the wheel and caused the accident, but it was confirmed that he was not under the influence of alcohol.
Prior to this, at around 11:05 a.m., a truck carrying 1,100 cases of beer was struck by a bullet from a truck that was turning right in the same Nam-gu district.
Part of a beer bottle fell onto the road, causing broken glass and beer to cover the road, paralyzing traffic in the area for about two hours.
