On the 15th, according to Geochang County, Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea, a person claiming to be a film crew member of actor Kang Dong Woo-won's movie production staff met with Go Chang-eup
After making a reservation for a group meal, the man called a restaurant in Gyeonggi-do, asking them to order wine from a specific company he knew, and asking for 3 million won per bottle.
The restaurant owner then paid 6 million won (approximately 620,000 yen) to the vendor, but the man still had not received the payment on the day of the reservation.
The police believe that actor Kang Dong Woo-won, who graduated from high school in the area, has taken advantage of this fraud.
Three cases of "unauthorized cancellation" fraud have been reported. A Geochang County official said, "If someone asks you to make a reservation and then act on their behalf to purchase something, it is highly likely to be a scam, so if you receive a similar call,
"If you receive a no-show, please report it to the county office or police immediately." Recently, there have been a series of "no-show" scams in which people have pretended to be local government officials, celebrities, politicians, etc.
On the 8th of this month, a no-show scam occurred in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, where a reservation was made for a wrap-up party after singer Nam Jin's concert.
On the 13th, a man posing as Moon Jin-seok, secretary of the Democratic Party of Korea, entered a restaurant in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province,
The victim requested the purchase of 10 million won (approximately 1.1 million yen) of high-end wine that was difficult to obtain, but did not show up on the reserved day.
"We ask that people who suspect this may be a no-show scam report it immediately."
