Kim Moon-soo, People Power presidential candidate, and Lee Jae-myung, both denounce the Democratic Party candidate, saying, ”Can bulletproof glass protect me from criminals? I don't even need a bulletproof vest” (South Korea)
Kim Moon-soo, the ruling party's presidential candidate, criticized Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate, on the 21st, saying, "This is a bulletproof dictatorship that must be put on trial."
During a campaign stop in Goyang, Gimpo and Paju in Gyeonggi Province on the same day, candidate Kim said, "The Republic of Korea is now facing a crisis of dictatorship. Now, the Republic of Korea has a new democracy.
Candidate Kim said to candidate Rhee, "You said you would put up bulletproof glass in front of you and go inside it to give a speech. Can you communicate with the people with glass blocking your path? In this heat,
Wouldn't it be better to sit in a prison cell than to campaign like this wearing a (bulletproof) vest and behind bulletproof glass?" he said.
He continued, "No matter how many thick bulletproof vests you wear, will you feel safe while going against the will of the people? No matter how thick the bulletproof glass you wear,
"But can bulletproof glass, bulletproof vests and bodyguards protect a criminal who has gone against the will of the people, committed numerous crimes and faced five trials?"
Candidate Kim continued, "I have been to prison twice. I spent two and a half years in prison, but I didn't need to wear a bulletproof vest because I was sitting in prison.
"There's no need for glass, no need for my wife to say 'bring me some money,' no need to use a corporate card, no need to use Japanese shampoo," he emphasized.
This is seen as a response to allegations that candidate Lee's wife, Kim Hye-kyung, has misused a corporate card.
He also said, "My bulletproof vest is you all, and the bulletproof glass that protects me is your heart. No matter how good the police and presidential bodyguards are, they cannot protect me as much as the people themselves.
In particular, in response to the Democratic Party's proposal to amend the Public Offices Election Act to remove the "act" from the criteria for publishing false facts, candidate Kim said, "For example, if I were to steal,
"If you steal something, it would be abolished from the criminal code. I have never heard of or seen such bulletproof legislation anywhere in the world," he said.
