It was reported that the New Reform Party had contacted the two parties to say, "We will offer our full support, so let's unify our candidates (for the presidential election)."
Lee Dong-hoon, the public relations chief of the New Reform Party's election headquarters, said through Fei Subook on the 21st.
In a post titled "Love call for unification?", he wrote, "Recently, the ruling party has been calling on candidate Lee to 'unite'," and "Most of them are pro-Yoon figures."
Lee said, "They say things like, 'I'll give up party power, so let's unify the party,' or 'Join the party and swallow it up (govern it)'. The premise is, 'Kim Moon-soo is the presidential candidate.
"There are two intentions behind their insistence on unifying the party. One is a calculation that takes the party system into consideration," he said. "They are saying, 'Han Dong-hoon,
"It seems that they are thinking that if the former ruling party chairman (Han Dong-hoon) becomes the party chairman after the presidential election, it would be better for candidate Lee to become the party chairman," he claimed.
He continued, "They don't seem to be particularly interested in the outcome of the presidential election, but are solely interested in the party's power afterwards.
"Secondly, it is an alibi to avoid responsibility for the defeat," he wrote, "'If we lose the presidential election, it will be because candidate Lee refused to unify.'"
It seems they want to set up a frame like this in advance. They are looking for someone to share the responsibility."
