What on earth was the purpose of this? An incident occurred in Korea where a 270,000 won lunch box was ordered, but the person did not show up and the fire department was falsely identified.
A series of "no-show scams" involving scammers impersonating celebrities or government agencies have been occurring in South Korea. The latest case involved a scammer impersonating a fire department in Sejong City.
According to the Sejong Nambu Fire Station on the 23rd, a restaurant in Hansol-dong, Sejong City, received an order for lunch boxes worth 270,000 won (approximately 28,200 yen) on the 19th in the name of a firefighting agency.
The customer sent an email containing a "guarantee of payment for goods delivery" disguised as an official document from a firefighting agency. The customer wrote that he would "visit the store the next day to pick up the lunch box," but
The buyer never showed up. The store owner visited the 119 Safety Center to make the payment and informed them of the situation. However, it was confirmed that the buyer was not an employee of the fire department.
The owner plans to file a complaint with the police soon for obstruction of business. An official from the Sejong Nambu Fire Station said, "Recently, there have been a series of incidents across the country where people have been falsely representing firefighting agencies.
If any suspicious circumstances arise, please check directly with the relevant authorities immediately."
