海外で新型コロナ再流行に「緊張」…韓国政府、対応体制点検
South Korean government ”nervous” over resurgence of COVID-19 overseas, examines response system
In response to the recent increase in COVID-19 virus cases in some overseas countries, such as China and Taiwan, the South Korean government has reviewed its domestic COVID-19 response system.
On the 23rd, the Ministry of Health and Welfare held a COVID-19 response review meeting chaired by Vice Minister Park Min-soo, along with the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Medical Center.
The meeting was held to take a detailed look at the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in some countries (Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, etc.) and to consider measures to block the influx of infections from overseas and to strengthen the domestic quarantine management of Korea.
The South Korean government is monitoring the COVID-19 outbreak overseas in real time and is reviewing the status of entry from high-risk countries.
We are thoroughly managing the influx of people from overseas, including by strengthening guidance for people from overseas. In addition, we will continue to maintain a response system to detect the influx of COVID-19 into the country at an early stage and prevent the spread of infection.
Currently, the COVID-19 outbreak in South Korea is showing an overall stable trend, with key indicators such as the proportion of serious patients and hospital bed occupancy rates also remaining stable.
According to the data, the number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 reached 174 in week 16 (April 13-19), 127 in week 17 (April 20-26), and 136 in week 18 (April 27-May 3).
The number of cases decreased to 118 in the 19th week (May 4-10). It then increased slightly to 146 in the 19th week (May 4-10). The use of COVID-19 drugs continues to decrease, with the number of cases increasing in the elderly population aged 65 and over.
The vaccination rate for the vaccine is slightly below half. The government plans to maintain its quarantine system without lowering its vigilance to prevent the spread of the virus overseas from reaching South Korea.
The vice minister said, "The government plans to continue to closely monitor developments both domestically and overseas so that it can respond quickly to any infectious disease crisis, and will do its utmost to protect the health of the people." He also asked the public to "take appropriate measures to protect the health of the people."
"I would like to ask everyone to continue practicing personal quarantine etiquette in their daily lives, such as washing their hands and observing cough etiquette."
