USFK: ”Reports of '4,500 cuts' not true”... ”Dedicated to the defense of Korea”

Regarding media reports that the Donald Trump administration is considering reducing the number of U.S. troops in South Korea by about 4,500, the U.S. Forces Korea stated that this is "not true."
On the 23rd, the US Forces Korea (USFK) said in a statement, "The report that the US Department of Defense is reducing its troops in Korea is not true. The US is firmly committed to the defense of South Korea.
"We look forward to discussing ways to maintain and strengthen our strong alliance with the United States," the Wall Street Journal reported on the 22nd (local time) as follows:
"We are considering moving about 4,500 of the 28,500 U.S. troops stationed in South Korea to Guam and other locations in the Indo-Pacific region," the report quoted defense officials as saying.
The South Korean Ministry of National Defense said, "No matters related to the withdrawal of US troops from South Korea have been discussed between South Korea and the US."
