Candidate Lee Joon-seok criticizes candidate Lee Jae-myung for ”giving out 250,000 won every time you go hungry” - Korean media
On the 31st, Lee Jun-seok, presidential candidate of the New Reform Party, named Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's candidate, and said, "Every time I'm hungry, I have to pay 250,000 won (about 26,100 yen)."
"Politicians who spread rumors should leave," he said. During a campaign rally in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, Lee Jun-seok said, "Korea has been in a state of civil war and martial law for the past six months.
"We have overcome the crisis, but we must not be exposed to the danger of populist illusion again," he said. Candidate Lee Jun-seok said, "Someone said they would give us 250,000 won and we were elected.
"If they want it to be a sustainable future for Korea, we have to be firm in saying, 'We know it's not your money,'" he said.
"Populism has dominated South Korea for the past decade," Lee said, adding, "If South Korea becomes a country plagued by debt, we will have to face the consequences."
"We will once again experience the exchange rate that we experienced 30 years ago at the time of the IMF," he said.
"I don't think it's necessary to completely eliminate the negative aspects," he said, asserting, "In fact, Lee Jae-myung has received a lot of criticism on the moral side, and is a candidate who needs to be examined."
Candidate Lee Jun-seok countered, "In the last presidential election, the Democratic Party of Korea strengthened its investigation into former First Lady Kim Gun-Hee."
He added, "Right now, various controversies are brewing regarding Lee Jae-myung's son, but if Lee becomes president, these controversies will become even more intense.
"Just as former President Moon Jae-in is struggling with the issue of his daughter and son-in-law, it is very important for the public to watch over the family so that they do not deviate from the norm when choosing a president," he said.
Regarding the fact that the People's Power Party will not abandon the possibility of unifying candidates until the voting day on June 3, he said, "They have been obsessed with unifying candidates throughout this election, but I have no choice but to accept it."
If the People's Power Party had not proposed the nationalization of the Democratic Party, it would have been in a slightly better position than it is now," he said.
"The change would not have seemed new to voters," he said.
