2-year-old boy dies after choking on rice cake at daycare center in South Korea... Teacher charged

Police have arrested a nursery teacher in Gimpo, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, in connection with the death of a two-year-old child who choked on white rice cakes (baekseolgi) made from non-glutinous rice.
On the 2nd, Gimpo Police Station announced that it had filed charges against A, a nursery school teacher at a nursery school in Gimpo City, on suspicion of professional negligence resulting in death, while she was still at home.
Nursery teacher A is suspected of neglecting the management of the children he was in charge of, resulting in the death of B (2 years old) at around 3:10 pm on the 22nd of last month.
According to the investigation, it is believed that just before the accident, daycare worker A had cut up the baekseolgi and distributed it to Boy B, and then while she was away from her desk for a certain period of time, Boy B ate the rice cake and choked on it.
After the incident occurred, nursery school staff performed the Heimlich maneuver and transported B to a nearby hospital, but he was confirmed dead at around 3:38 p.m., about 30 minutes after arriving at the hospital.
The National Forensic Service, which performed an autopsy on B's body, informed the police that "the cause of death is presumed to be asphyxiation due to airway obstruction."
A police official said, "No traces of abuse were found on the surveillance cameras at the nursery school."
"We plan to thoroughly investigate the causal relationship between the act and B's death."
