He made a resolute statement about the People Power, such as directly criticizing the controversy over the candidate change that occurred in the previous election, and raised his voice saying that the party must change.
At the election committee meeting held at the party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, on the afternoon of the same day, former candidate Kim said, “Lee Jae-in
"After watching President Lee Jae-myung's inauguration ceremony, I feel that I have committed a huge historical crime. With this in mind, I would like to offer my apologies to the people and my fellow party members," he said, bowing his head.
Regarding the reason for the defeat in the presidential election, former candidate Kim said, "The reason is that the People Power does not have a basic understanding and belief in democracy, and a clear mission to protect it.
"The power of the people elected a president who imposed martial law, and the fact that the will of the president was largely carried out unilaterally by the party requires deep self-reflection.
"The goal is important, but the means are also important, and yet (the president) used very inappropriate means, and we did not have the internal power to control them," he said.
He also criticized the change in presidential candidates. Former candidate Kim said, "Democracy within the party has collapsed. Who will be chosen as the party leader? Who will be chosen as a public office candidate?
"Democracy has completely disappeared. No one can deny that the way candidates for public office were selected is beyond reproach. Deep reflection and reform are needed," he said.
He also argued that "the people's power must play a clear and firm role in controlling the economy and people's livelihood."
Kim, the former candidate, said, "The Democratic Party is now saying, 'The economy is the Democratic Party,' but up until now, the clear slogan was, 'The economy is the power of the people,' but
Can the people really turn the economy around now? I don't think they have been given the confidence to revive the economy."
He also said, "We are firm in diplomacy and security, including nuclear weapons, the US-ROK alliance, and Japan-US-ROK diplomacy.
"Do you have a firm advantage?" Kim replied, "There is no established rule that says we can fight among ourselves to a certain extent and we shouldn't fight to a certain extent.
"We need to have more democratic and open-minded rules within the party to deal with differences in opinion," he said.
"I feel sorry for the people who will be hurt. We hope that the people who are in despair can make a fresh start and that the power of the people will become the hope for Korea's politics, economy and people's livelihood."
