<Interview> Kim Da Mi, star of ”Puzzle” talks about her visual design, which many say resembles a popular cartoon character, and about season 2
Korean actress Kim Da Mi talked about her co-starring with Son Sukku during an interview celebrating the final episode of the Disney+ series "Puzzle" at a cafe in Seoul on the 5th.
Kim Da Mi said about Son Sukku, "He was very easygoing. Even after meeting with the director at the beginning, there were many parts of the character that we had to work on together.
He said, 'Let's talk a lot about difficult things,' so we had a lot of phone calls and just talked a lot."
He continued, "I felt like we were communicating with each other.
He also analyzed the character for me, and being a very curious actor, he said, "Let's try this, let's try that." He is an actor who thinks about various perspectives.
"Nine Puzzle" is about Ina (played by Kim Da Mi), a current profiler who is the only witness to a cold case from 10 years ago.
This is a mystery thriller in which Han-sem (Son Sukku), a detective from the special investigation team who suspects her to the very end, uncovers the secrets of a serial killing case that has begun again with a mysterious piece of the puzzle.
Yoon, who directed the films "Bad Guys," "The Bandits," "The Spy Gone North," and the Netflix series "Narco Gods,"
・Director Jong Bin is in charge of directing. Also starring are Kim Yeowon, Kim Eung Soo, Roh Jae Won, Park Gyu Young, Park Sung Woong, Baek Hyun Jin, Lee Sun Min, Lee Juyeon,
Actors Lee Hee-jun, Ji Jin Hee, and Hwang Jung-min have joined forces to complete the brilliant lineup. "Puzzle" is second only to "Moving" in terms of viewing hours in its first week of release.
It was well received, ranking second on Disney+ Korean content charts. Kim Da Mi said, "I was happy and I feel so good that so many people love it even though it has just been released.
"I was really happy," he said of the final episode of STREAM. "Many people around me asked me who the culprit was. They asked me why my nails change color, if there was a reason for it, etc.
" she said, laughing. She also had some worries about playing a cartoonish character. Kim Da Mi said, "I was worried because Ina is a character that seems very out of place and unrealistic.
"But I thought that was a very Ina-like character. I thought that something special could come out of that," he said.
When asked about the areas she focused on, Kim Da Mi said, "When I was saying my lines, I focused a lot on the rhythm.
I thought he would be a character who can't do things naturally, and who can communicate accurately and get what's in his head out of his head quickly.
I wanted to give it a vivid and fairytale-like aspect. There is a lot to explain, so I used a lot of hand movements. I also wanted to speak faster and to express my character more in the beginning.
I wanted to give more, but the director said that his first goal was to convey the flow to the viewers.
"I thought that since Ina doesn't express her emotions in a general way, there might be some parts that I can't empathize with. So I asked Seung-ju (played by Park GyuYoung)
In the scene where she discusses her feelings with him, I tried to express Ina's pain." Kim Da Mi, who plays a profiler in this drama, has gone all out with glasses, a tie, and a short haircut.
The image change attracted a lot of attention. The comic setting and costumes also reminded people of the manga "Detective Conan". Viewers also showed a passionate response, saying, "It's like Conan."
Kim Da Mi said, "I didn't use any reference. The director wanted to show a cartoonish character and wanted me to have something unique."
"I thought about wearing a headband, but when I suggested a tie, they said a tie would be better," she said. "I'd never had a short haircut before, so I thought, 'Short hair,'" she continued.
"Shall we try a profiling session?" I also usually wear glasses, and the director said, "Shall we try wearing glasses when profiling?"
"It felt like the story was being completed as we were filming," she revealed, drawing attention. Many viewers are speculating that there will be a second season after seeing the ending. Kim Da Mi said, "When talking about season 2,
I've never done it, but after seeing the ending, I thought that maybe someone else had tried to imitate it, or maybe there was an accomplice. I don't really understand the world view, but
"I thought something similar was happening. I thought it was an open ending."
