After the closing ceremony of the presidential election headquarters held at the National Assembly on the same day, Lee Former responded to a question from reporters about whether he had any intention of running for party leader by saying, "Above all, I want the party members to be strong."
Regarding the party convention, Lee said, "It is a matter for the leadership to decide," but added, "Even after last year's general election, we have been the most powerful party in the National Assembly.
As we completed the preparations quickly, we will proceed quickly this time as well." Regarding the role of the minority opposition party, the New Reform Party, he said, "When a new government is formed, it is customary for the new government to take on a certain amount of responsibility.
"I think it's right to send my support," he said. However, he added, "(The Democratic Party of Korea) is the ruling party with many seats, so it is not appropriate to change things about the 'rules of the game' such as election laws, the judicial system, and the National Assembly law."
"When making changes, it is right that they should be carried out with the agreement of the ruling and opposition parties. The New Reform Party will say what needs to be said about unreasonable changes to the judicial system and other such issues," he said.
Regarding the People's Power Party, former candidate Lee said, "Even after losing the election, there have been many mudslingings in the process of the leadership resigning and the next leadership.
"I think it's up to the voters to decide whether or not he should show such a negative attitude," he said.
At the closing ceremony, former candidate Lee said, "2.92 million voters chose us. I accept this number with great humility, but at the same time, I am very grateful for the support.
"I promise to double that number with great ambition," he said. "In the local elections, we will further sharpen our strategy and make full use of our colors to ensure victory."
Chung Haram, acting party leader and floor leader, said, "If we keep our original intentions in mind and work hard based on the results we have achieved this time, it will not be too late to achieve our long-awaited goal of President Lee Jun-seok and the coming to power of the New Reform Party.
I believe we can achieve that goal."
