South Korean Presidential Office: ”President Lee Jae Myung to attend G7 Summit”
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has been invited to attend the G7 (Group of Seven) Summit to be held in Canada from the 15th to the 17th of this month.
A spokesman for the South Korean presidential office said this at a press conference on the 7th. South Korea is not a member of the G7, but has been invited to attend the meetings.
It has been reported that US President Donald Trump will be attending the summit, so it is highly likely that President Lee will meet with President Trump for the first time.
The spokesman said, "The Lee Jae-myung administration plans to restore the number of reporters aboard the South Korean presidential aircraft, which had been significantly reduced, to the level during the Moon Jae-in administration."
The spokesman also explained the contents of the US-ROK summit telephone conversation that took place the previous day (6th). The spokesman said, "President Lee spoke to the US President Donald Trump for about 20 minutes from 10pm yesterday.
"I spoke with the President," he said, adding, "The two sides agreed to work toward quickly reaching an agreement on tariff negotiations between South Korea and the United States that is satisfactory to both countries."
He continued, "President Trump has invited President Lee to visit the United States, and the two sides have agreed to meet as soon as possible."
In light of this, it has been reported that the White House plans to send a special envoy to the United States.
