The number of marriages in Seoul has increased by 20 percentage points (South Korea)

The city of Seoul in South Korea has seen an increase in marriages and births for 12 consecutive months, with the number of births in March hitting a three-year high.
According to the Korea National Statistical Office and Seoul City on the 8th, the number of births in Seoul City in March this year was 3,786, an 8.7% increase from the same period last year.
This is the highest figure since March 2022 (4,027 people). The number of births in Seoul increased by 9.7 percentage points in April last year compared to the same period last year.
Since then, the number of marriages has continued to increase for 12 consecutive months until March of this year. Meanwhile, marriages are also increasing. The number of marriages in Seoul in March of this year was 3,814, a 20% increase from the previous year.
It also marks the 12th consecutive month of increase since April of last year, when it increased by 27.8 percentage points compared to the same period the previous year.
Regarding this, Seoul City said, "The increase in the number of births is due to the COVID-19 virus infection.
"In addition to the notable trend of an increase in marriages since the endemic, measures to combat low birth rates have had a compounding effect," he explained.
