”MDMA smuggling from Korea”... Famous Japanese music producer arrested at airport
A famous Japanese music producer has been arrested on suspicion of smuggling MDMA from South Korea to Japan. According to the Sankei Shimbun newspaper dated the 9th, the Kumamoto Prefectural Police arrested the music producer, who lives in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo.
Masanori Morita was arrested on suspicion of violating the Illegal Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act. Morita is a well-known artist who has participated in the songwriting of many popular artists, including Kimaguren and Ketsumeishi.
At the time of the crime, Morita had departed from Korea and was boarding a plane arriving at Kumamoto Airport with a travel bag containing synthetic drugs such as MDMA, also known as "ecstasy," in his pocket.
He is suspected of smuggling MDMA into Japan by checking his bag. MDMA is a dangerous drug with strong addictive and side effects, and continued use can cause severe depression, cognitive impairment, and heart disease.
Upon arriving at Kumamoto Airport, customs inspection confirmed that Morita was in possession of 0.24g of MDMA and 0.21g of ketamine, and the Kumamoto Prefectural Police conducted an emergency investigation on the same day.
The police did not reveal specific details about Morita's admission of the charges, the details of the incident, how he obtained the drugs, or his motive for the crime, citing concerns that this could hinder the investigation.
Meanwhile, Morita was previously arrested in March 2018 on suspicion of violating the Customs Act for attempting to smuggle about 4 kg of gold bars into Japan.
The child has issued an apology.
