Kim Byung-woo, the director of the movie "From the Point of View of an Omniscient Reader," personally explained the issue of the original work being damaged.
The production report meeting, held at Konkuk University Entrance, was attended by director Kim Byung-woo and actors Ahn Hyo-Seop, Lee Min-ho, Choi Soo-bin, Shin Seung-ho, and Nana.
"From the Perspective of an Omniscient Reader" is about a novel that has been serialized for over 10 years, but on the day it is completed, the world in the novel becomes reality, and the only person who can see the ending is the reader.
This fantasy action movie depicts how Kim Deok-ja, a reader who knows the world, tries to save it together with the protagonist of the novel. After the release of the teaser for this movie, it was embroiled in a controversy over the damage done to the original work.
In the original work, Yoo Jun-hyuk (played by Lee Min-ho) and Lee Ji-hye (played by JISOO of "BLACKPINK") use swords as weapons, but in this film they use guns, which makes me wonder if they didn't follow the original work properly.
There were also concerns that the setting of Lee Ji-hye being the incarnation of Yi Sun-shin had been lost.
The director said, "This is a problem that arose when we were trying to adapt a portion of the original work, which is very extensive, into a movie.
There is a lot of background to the story, but I was worried about whether it was right to introduce it all. The timing was also a problem, and the planned amount of story would include too much background from the original work.
"There are differences in the timing of appearances," he said. "Many characters use long swords, but as a role that requires visual action, it is important to diversify.
I thought it would be best to make the most of the characters. In particular, Lee Ji Hye is a character far removed from the team, so it would be impossible to put them together.
"I thought long and hard about what device would cause the explosion at the most dramatic moment, and it was a decision I made after much deliberation," the director said.
"I think that if you watch the movie, you will fully understand why that happened," he said confidently.
"From" will be released in Korea on July 23rd.
