[Official Report] Lee Je Hoon & Koo Kyo Hwan, stars of the movie ”Escape,” and director Lee Jung Pil, appeared at the Japan premiere just before the movie's release
If you stop, you die instantly! A series of desperate decisions!! The movie "Escape" will be released on June 20th (Friday) at Shinjuku Piccadilly and other theaters nationwide.
The role of Gyu-nam, a soldier who attempts a life-threatening escape from North Korea, will be played by actor Kim Jong Un, who has appeared in "Signal" and "Revenge Agent: Model Taxi".
The role of Hyeon Sang, the army major who relentlessly pursues the protagonist, is played by Koo Kyo Hwan from "DP - Deserter Pursuer", and he perfectly expresses the conflict of an elite soldier.
In addition, Hong XaBin from "In This Bad World" and Song Kang, whose popularity is on the rise with "Navirella", will have a decisive influence on Hyun Sang's life.
He plays a key role. The director of this film is Lee Jung-pil, who directed the 2020 Korean hit "Samjin Company 1995".
In addition, the song "Yanghwa Bridge" by Zion.T, who collaborates with artists such as Gen Hoshino and SIRUP, adds color to the film as an insert song, making it a non-stop hit from the beginning to the end.
The audience in Korea also praised the film for its suspenseful atmosphere. The audience, who were selected by lottery, were packed into the venue, and the MC and director Lee Jung-pil appeared on stage. The main actors Lee Je Hoon and Koo Kyo-woo
The fans were nowhere to be seen. MC Masayuki Furuya asked, "Hey, Director! Lee Je Hoon and Koo Kyo Hwan aren't here. Did they escape?" It was an emergency situation!
However, when they heard a voice in Japanese saying, "This is it!", the two Korean stars who will represent 2025 appeared from the audience, and the audience went wild! They waved to the Korean stars,
Cheers rang out. Lee Je Hoon appeared on stage and said, "Nice to meet you, I'm Lee Je Hoon. Nice to meet you." Koo Kyo Hwan said, "Hello, I'm Koo Kyo Hwan."
Director Lee Jung-pil greeted the audience with, "I'm Director Lee Jung-pil. Thank you very much," and was met with thunderous applause.
This will be his first visit to Japan since the Fan Meeting last year, and his second consecutive visit to Japan for the Japan premiere of the movie he stars in.
Lee Je Hoon, who will be appearing at the event, said, "I've been to Japan for filming and fan meetings, but this is my first time coming here for the release of the movie. I'm very happy to be able to meet everyone at the theater this time.
"I'm so excited. Thank you so much for filling the seats. It's like a dream," he said, thanking the audience for coming out despite it being a weekday evening.
Koo Kyo Hwan, who is visiting Japan for the first time since the JeeAnFilm Festival in Osaka in 2019, said, "I am very honored to be able to greet you all this time. I hope that I can have a wonderful time for you all.
I hope it will be a success. I'm very happy to be able to greet the Japanese audience and deliver the movie to them," he said with a smile.
Director Lee Jung-pil, who directed the film, said, "I went to Sapporo two months ago, and I wondered if the cold there was similar to that in North Korea, even though I've never been there before. I came to Tokyo today.
"But it was hot in Tokyo and I felt it was a little different. The movie has a sense of speed and unfolds quickly, so I hope everyone will enjoy it," he said with a smile.
In the next part, we asked a series of questions that were collected in advance on social media. ●Have you ever felt like running away from a difficult scene or had a hard time during filming?
What kind of scene was it? Lee Je Hoon: As the title suggests, it depicts the moment when you try to escape from a certain place.
That's right. The moment I was running, I felt like I was about to stop breathing. There were moments throughout the shoot when I felt like I was going to stop breathing.
There were many moments when I felt like I was breaking through the barrier. If I was caught as an escapee, it would mean death. I just kept running to survive.
I was chasing it in a car to take a picture of it, but I was running at full speed because I didn't want to lose to the car. But I kept running on these two legs, but I didn't want to run faster than the car.
Even though I knew that, it was quite difficult. I was really pushing myself to my limits, and I was running the whole time. I think the emotions I felt at that time are well captured in this film.
I went through such a difficult time, and I ran while feeling like I was about to stop breathing. I think this might be the last work for which I ran at full speed.
Koo Kyo Hwan: "When Lee Je Hoon was running beyond his limits, I was in the car filming the whole time.
"At that moment, I felt so sorry and it was so painful," he said, while performing a gesture of holding the steering wheel with his hands.
●A question for all three of you. Is there anywhere you want to go or anything you want to do in Japan that makes you want to escape right now?
Director Lee Jung-pil: "I would like to go to Okinawa. I am a film director, so I am interested in how people live and what they do.
I think that all of you in the audience are here as fans, even though you have your own daily lives, and I would love to go to your homes (laughs).
I am a filmmaker, so I really love movies. The place I arrived at after completing "Escape" is this very movie theater. I wanted to stand in front of the audience.
So I feel like I have reached my destination. Even if I escape further, I don't want to go anywhere else," he said, to thunderous applause.
Koo Kyo Hwan: "I'd like to stop by a quaint cafe, order some typical food and drinks, and kill time there while watching the people walking around the city," says Koo Kyo Hwan.
It was an artistic expression like Kyohwan. Lee Je Hoon: "I visited Shizuoka last year for a shoot, and this year I visited Fukuoka, Nagasaki, and Nara, and stayed there for a long time for shoots.
Whenever I was feeling down or suffocated during filming or work, I always thought of Japan, a country close to me. It was a familiar place, and I had been visiting Japan for a long time.
I want to continue to live in Japan. In short, Japan is like a paradise. Because wherever you go, there is a convenience store," he said.
The cast and directors enjoyed interacting with the audience, but then a surprise performance unfolded! Projected on the screen was a comment from actor Naoto Takenaka.
Naoto Takenaka: "Director Lee Jung Pil, Lee Je Hoon, and Koo Kyo Hwan. Hello. Welcome to Japan. I'm Naoto Takenaka. "Escape" was a great movie.
It's a heart-wrenching movie, filled with love and a sense of incredible speed. I've been keeping my eyes glued to the energetic acting of Jae-hoon and Kyo-hwan.
I was glued to the screen. Thank you so much for the wonderful movie. It's a movie I want to see again. Director, please let me be there next time. Thank you. This was Naoto Takenaka. Excuse me."
It was revealed that he sent the message because he genuinely enjoyed the work and because he has a connection with Lee Je Hoon.
Lee Je Hoon said, "I can't go into detail here, but I'd like to show it to you all in the near future.
I first learned about Naoto Takenaka when I was really young through the film "Shall we Dance?".
I have seen Takenaka-san's performances in many movies and TV series, such as "Legend of the Dragon." I always found myself laughing to the core while watching his performances. He truly has the ability to express joy, anger, sorrow and happiness to us.
I think he is an actor who can convey his feelings, and he left a strong impression on me. I felt a strange sensation when I was able to co-star with such an admired person, Naoto Takenaka, and there was a lot of laughter on set.
It was a very special set. So I hope everyone will look forward to our new film together. Also, thank you for watching the film "Escape" and sending me a surprise message.
"I'm truly grateful for all of this," she said with a shy smile. It was a very lively event, but the time to end the show was drawing near.
When asked to leave a message for the Japanese audience, Lee Je Hoon wrote a sincere comment: "I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to meet you all at the Japanese theater.
I think I will never forget it. Whenever I travel to a different country, I always go to the local cinema. Even in Tokyo, I have never seen any independent cinemas or cinemas.
I also went to the movie theater. Every time I visit the theater, I always think, "How wonderful it would be if one day my movie was screened at this theater."
Pamphlets are lined up, and people are coming to watch the film. I wondered if such a moment of great happiness actually exists.
And now that dream has come true. Thank you so much. I'm so happy. I hope everyone enjoys the movie "Escape". And I hope everyone will enjoy the movie.
I would be happy if you would show lots of love. Everyone, please take care and be happy forever. Thank you. Thank you."
Koo Kyo Hwan continued, "Sometimes we record a scene on video, but there are also moments that we can't forget if we just record them with our eyes.
I will remember this moment forever, and I want to leave this day as a memory. "Kaja" (meaning "Let's go!" in Korean) was the final shout.
Director Lee Jung-pil: "I wanted the audience to start watching this film thinking that the main characters are North Koreans, but then realize that it's also their own story.
I want people to go beyond that and realize that each person's lifestyle and life is similar. I wanted to convey a message to people who live in pursuit of happiness.
I think that everyone is a movie fan. I think that everyone is a "fugitive on the run" in search of true happiness. Thank you for coming to see the movie."
During the photo session, the two cast members even took the time to make heart marks, showing just how close they are.
The Japan premiere had ended, but it was announced that the guests would leave the venue through the audience seats.
They marched in front of the audience, waving their hands. With only three days left until the film's release in Japan, they helped to liven up the film's release. <To celebrate the release! Gifts will be distributed to audience members for two consecutive weeks!>
