An Asiana Airlines international passenger plane had to turn back 40 minutes after takeoff after an engine fire broke out during flight.
According to industry sources, on the 22nd, at around 6:49 pm the previous day, Incheon International Airport
Asiana Airlines flight OZ108, which had departed the airport and was heading to Narita Airport in Japan, turned back due to an engine malfunction. The plane turned back in accordance with safety procedures and arrived at the airport at 7:40 p.m., one hour after takeoff.
The plane returned to Incheon Airport around 2 a.m. There were 263 passengers on board, but no one was injured. Witnesses reported seeing sparks and black smoke coming from the engine.
After returning to Incheon Airport, Asiana Airlines advised passengers to rest in the lounge and arranged for alternative flights.
Asiana Airlines plans to thoroughly inspect the plane that was turned back and investigate the specific details and cause of the accident, including whether it was a bird strike.
The aircraft was identified as a 30-300 and was 11 years and 8 months old. An Asiana Airlines official said, "We had to turn back for safety reasons," and "We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our passengers.
"We plan to apologize and provide compensation."
