HD Hyundai teams up with US shipbuilding giant to expand into US market - South Korean media

HD Hyundai (formerly Hyundai Heavy Industries) announced on the 19th (local time) that it has signed a strategic and comprehensive partnership with Edison Showest Offshore (ECO), a US company, to build commercial ships in the US.
The two companies plan to jointly build a medium-sized LNG-fueled container ship at ECO's shipyard by 2028. HD Hyundai will be in charge of ship design, equipment and materials.
The company will act as purchasing agent and provide construction technology support. It will also manufacture and supply some of the hull blocks and make technology investments. In the future, it plans to expand the scope of cooperation to other ship types.

In 2024, U.S. shipbuilding companies will receive orders for three 3,600 TEU (twenty-foot container equivalent) container ships, all of which will be ordered by U.S. shipping companies.
HD Hyundai is aggressively expanding into the U.S. market. In April, it signed a memorandum of understanding with its American counterpart Huntington Ingalls Industries to improve ship productivity and develop cutting-edge shipbuilding technology.
The company also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Fairbanks Morse Defense, a U.S. manufacturer of marine engines, to cooperate on the supply of products in the U.S.
