April births recover to 20,000 range... highest increase in 34 years = South Korea

According to the "April 2025 Population Trends" released by the Korea National Statistical Office on the 25th, the number of births in April this year was 20,717, up from the same month last year (19,000).
This is an increase of 1,658 (8.7 percentage points) from 2016 (2013), which is the first time in three years since 2022 (21,164) that the number of births as of April has exceeded 20,000, an increase of 8.7 percentage points.
This is the highest level in 34 years since 1991 (8.7 percentage points). The cumulative number of births from January to April this year was 85,739, up 7.7 percentage points from the same period last year.
The number has been increasing for 10 consecutive months since July 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year. The total birth rate in April was 0.79, 0.06 higher than the same month of the previous year (0.73).
"This is the result of a combination of factors including the continuing increase in marriages since the early 30s, the growing population of women in their early 30s, and childbirth support policies by the government and local governments."
In addition, the number of deaths in April was 28,785, an increase of 225 (0.8 percentage points) from the same month last year, and the number of births was lower than the number of deaths.
The population in April was a natural decrease of 8,068 people. Meanwhile, the number of marriages in April was 18,921, up 884 (4.9 percentage points) from a year ago, and has increased by 13% from the previous year for 13 consecutive months since April 2024.
The cumulative number of marriages from January to April was 77,625, up 7.5 percentage points from the same period last year (72,187).
The number of divorces has decreased. The number of divorces in April was 7,299, down 402 cases (down 5.2 percentage points) from the previous year.
The cumulative number of divorces from January to April was 28,778, down 5.5 percentage points from the same period last year.
