On the 26th, the Gwangju District Court sentenced a man, A, who was indicted on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act (child abuse), to a fine of 8 million won (approximately 850,000 yen).
The court ruled that "the intent of forcing the victim into his car was recognized." In July of last year, Man A had forced an elementary school student who was crossing the road in Gwangju into his vehicle and taken him to the police station.
He was indicted on suspicion of honking the horn, and the elementary school student shone his flashlight on the man. In response, Man A stopped his vehicle and said, "It was almost a traffic accident."
He then put the elementary school student in his vehicle, took him to the police station and left. The elementary school student filed an appeal, and the prosecution determined that "Mr. A's actions constituted child abuse" and indicted him.
At the trial, Man A denied the allegations of child abuse, stating, "I just took him to the police station to discipline him and teach him not to behave dangerously, and I did not force him into my car."
but was not accepted.
