Korean terrestrial TV series forces re-broadcast and re-re-broadcast...why?

Terrestrial TV stations are increasingly reorganizing and broadcasting content that was previously released on over-the-top (OTT) services. This is seen as a strategy to ensure profitability, but it could also be a cause for concern over competitiveness.

The ratings for episode 1 were 14.5% and 23.6%, higher than the SBS Fri-Sat TV series "Our Movie" (3.6%, 3.3%) that aired in the same time slot.
This is the third time that "ear.M" has aired. The drama was postponed due to the school violence allegations against lead actress Park Hae-soo, and was released through OTT in 2022. It was broadcast on KBS in April.
This is because the content broadcast on the Joy Channel was reorganized this time. Until now, it was common for content to be broadcast on terrestrial TV first and then released on OTT at the same time or after the broadcast.
However, recently, there has been a trend of rebroadcasting content that has been released previewed on OTT on terrestrial TV. MBC, which has aired OTT works such as "Moving" and "Tracer",
"We will continue to select and acquire content that combines artistic quality and popularity through various channels," he said. The broadcasting industry pointed to "profitability" as the reason behind this trend.
This is because by reorganizing already proven content, production costs can be reduced and a certain level of viewer ratings and advertising revenue can be expected.
However, there is opposition within the TV station. MBC TV Series PDs are in a difficult position regarding the "Casino" episode.
They issued a statement opposing the plan, calling it an attempt to "artificially achieve a profit this year" and criticizing it as "meaning that MBC will become a channel dedicated to broadcasting Disney+ reruns."
Experts have expressed concern about the weakening of terrestrial broadcasting's competitiveness and the worsening reliance on OTT.
"Television stations can choose to program content, but they must also make efforts to strengthen their independent production capabilities."
