Police and Ministry of Employment and Labor conduct eight-hour search of DL Construction and other facilities following death at Uijeongbu construction site
Police investigating a worker's fall at a DL Construction apartment construction site in Uijeongbu have launched searches of DL Construction's offices and other locations.
The Gyeonggi (Gyeonggi) Buk (North) National Police Agency, together with the Uijeongbu Branch Office of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, conducted investigations into four locations, including the DL Construction Seoul office and subcontractors, from 9:25 a.m. on the 20th.
The search, which involved around 30 people, including labor inspectors and police, took about eight hours, and the investigating authorities found a large number of electronic devices and related documents.
The authorities plan to use the documents they have secured to check whether safety measures were implemented in relation to the fatal crash. They will also investigate the structural and fundamental causes of the serious accident at the construction company.
The investigation will look into whether there were any violations of the Industrial Safety and Health Act or the Act on Punishment for Serious Accidents, etc. Once the analysis of the seized items is complete, it is expected that full-scale questioning of those involved will continue.
So far, two people, including former contractors and subcontractors, have been charged with crimes. A police official said, "The number of people charged with crimes is very fluid, and it is unclear how many people have been charged so far.
Prior to this, at around 3 p.m. on the 8th, a five-person apartment building was being constructed at a new apartment building construction site run by DL Construction in Shingok-dong, Uijeongbu city.
A teenage worker, Mr. A, fell from a height of about six stories. After the accident, Mr. A went into cardiac arrest and was taken to the hospital, but died during treatment. The police said that at the time of the accident, Mr. A was standing on a wall mounted on the outer wall of the apartment building.
It was discovered that the accident occurred while dismantling the net. Mr. A had been wearing a helmet until now, but there was a problem with the installation of the safety ring to prevent falls.
The building will be constructed in six buildings, with three basement floors and 35 aboveground floors, and will house a total of 815 households, with residents scheduled to move in in September 2026.
