Kia began mass production of purpose-built vehicles (PBVs) in July. A2Z will develop the PV5, Kia's first PBV model, into a Level 4 autonomous vehicle. This vehicle will be available in October.
The vehicle is scheduled to be used at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit to be held in Gyeongju. A2Z has been selected as the operator of the autonomous vehicle for the event, and will be running it in August.
Starting at the end of the month, 10 autonomous vehicles will be put into operation in the Gyeongju area, including two PV5-based vehicles, as well as the driverless "Roii" developed by A2Z and buses.
With this partnership, A2Z will combine the design of autonomous driving software and the production of hardware to create a new business model called "In-house Solution Production - External Partnerships for Automotive Supply."
A2Z will implement a "Plan Strategy" to build a stable automobile production and supply system. A2Z CEO Han Jihyon said, "Starting with the PV5-based autonomous driving vehicle that will be unveiled at the APEC summit,
"We will work together to expand into global markets where we operate, including Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Japan. We will also expand our collaboration with subsequent PBV models."
