South Korean National Security Advisor: ”We will restore Japan-South Korea shuttle diplomacy as soon as possible”... ”We will strengthen Japan-US-South Korea cooperation”
Woo Sang-ho, Chief Secretary for Political Affairs of the Presidential Office, who is accompanying South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on his visit to Japan and the United States, said on the 24th that the Japan-South Korea summit held the previous day was "a good opportunity for the Korea-Japan summit."
"It is significant that Korea-US-Japan cooperation has been strengthened," he said at a press conference held at the Tokyo Press Center on the same day.
The leaders mutually acknowledged that "amidst the dramatic changes in the international situation, there are many issues that require joint responses," he said.
"The leaders of South Korea and Japan will discuss a variety of topics for about three and a half hours through talks and dinners," Wee said.
"The small group talks were initially scheduled for 20 minutes but lasted for about an hour," said Wei.
Regarding the historical issues between the two countries, Director Wei said, "There were discussions, but rather than discussing specific issues, the focus was on how to handle the issue and what to do."
"This was done with an approach based on philosophical awareness, such as, 'How can treating it like this promote cooperation now and in the future?'"
