The U.S.-South Korea joint military exercise "Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS)," which is designed to defend the Korean Peninsula in the event of an emergency, concluded on the 28th.
The US-ROK Combined Forces Command said on the same day that it had "successfully concluded the joint exercises" and that "these exercises were a testament to the US-ROK alliance."
"We reaffirmed our robust defense posture, further strengthened our joint readiness posture to deter any provocations, and demonstrated our ability to defend both countries if necessary," he said.
From the 18th of this month to this day, the United States and South Korea conducted joint and combined operations in areas including land, sea, air, space, cyberspace, and information.
In particular, the plan focused on testing coalition forces based on realistic threat scenarios, reflecting lessons learned from recent conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israel-Hamas war.
The exercise also went beyond military training, with the South Korean government, civilian agencies, and emergency response personnel participating in the planning and implementation stages, and comprehensively reviewing procedures for crisis management and the protection of non-combatants and civilians.
The US-ROK Combined Forces Command said, "This regular defense exercise maintained the readiness of the US-ROK alliance to respond to changing security challenges," and "It was a whole-of-government approach."
"The alliance demonstrates its commitment to counter-terrorism preparedness as well as the safety of the Korean people," Roach said.
