[Interview] Beyond the Bar's Jung Chae Young is obsessed with ratings... ”Netflix's rankings make me cry”
"I couldn't help but cry when I saw the global rankings."

Actress Jung Chae-young shared her thoughts on her role in the JTBC weekend drama 'Beyond the Bar' in an interview ahead of the final episode, sharing behind-the-scenes details about the drama.

'Beyond the Bar' tells the story of Hyo-min (played by Jung Chae-young), a rookie lawyer who is righteous and reliable but clumsy at socializing. She brings a cold feeling to the world, but through the help of her partner, lawyer Seok-hoon (played by Lee Jin-wook), she grows into a perfect lawyer.

Jung Chae-young plays the role of rookie lawyer Kang Hyo-min in the drama, portraying a "growing character." Just like Kang Hyo-min, who continues to grow with each episode, 'Beyond the Bar' also proved its popularity with viewership ratings rising to 9.1%.

Jung Chae-young said, "I started watching it even though I tried not to worry about the ratings," laughing. "Every time the ratings went up, I felt so good and started my day with a smile."

The show's global performance also drew attention. Based on data compiled from the 11th to 17th of last month, it ranked second in the non-English TV show category of Netflix's "Global Top 10" with 4.5 million views (cumulative viewing time divided by running time). Not only has it remained in the top 10 for three consecutive weeks, it also made it into the top 10 in 47 countries, including Korea.

Jung Chae-young said, "After the second episode, the director raised the show's global ranking in a group chat." She added, "I was overseas at the time, but I cried without even realizing it. I was touched that so many people watched it, even though it was only the first week. I'm an emotional type," drawing laughter.

Jung Chae-young has received positive reviews for her acting and demonstrated her presence as a leading actress through this drama. When asked about the meaning of this work, she said, "The seniors gave me so much energy, and there were times when my acting came out better than I expected." She added, "I thought that when I become a senior with 20 or 30 years of experience, I have to be like them. I learned a lot."

In particular, about her co-star Lee Jin-wook, she said, "I was very nervous while preparing, but Lee Jin-wook senior was the one who made it the most comfortable. I wondered if I would be able to do that when I reach that age." "There are times when I get nervous and want to improve, which can make things difficult, but senior has a strong core and is relaxed. I was impressed."

The delicate relationship between senior and junior Yoon Seok-hoon and Kang Hyo-min has been interpreted as a love line. In response, Jung Chae-young said, "The love line was open, so viewers could think about it, and that's what made it interesting." She added, "There weren't any major revisions, but I also agreed with senior." She continued, "I also interpreted it as an open ending, as to whether it was true love as a man or respect for a senior, but personally I interpreted it as respect for a senior."

Was there any difficulty while preparing for your first courtroom drama, playing a lawyer? Jung Chae-young said, "I read a lot during the preparation period, just to study." "It took me a while to understand because it's not the words and terminology I normally use. I invested a lot of time in understanding what was being said and acting."

Jung Chae-young embodies the intelligent and dignified image of Kang Hyo-min. When asked if there are any similarities between the two, Jung Chae-young said, "When I immerse myself in one thing, I do that. When I find something I'm interested in or want to see, I watch it." She drew attention by saying, "I think we're similar in that we're persistent."
