Former Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha becomes South Korea's first female ambassador to the US

On the 1st, former Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha was officially appointed as the first ambassador to the United States under the Lee Jae-myung administration. Following on from South Korea's first female foreign minister, she is also the first female ambassador to the United States.
On the 1st, the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had appointed Kang Kyung-wha, president and CEO of the Asia Society of America, who served as foreign minister under the Moon Jae-in administration, as its ambassador to the United States.
Ambassador Kang served as the first female foreign minister in the Moon administration in June 2017, after previously serving as a minister at the Permanent Mission of South Korea to the United Nations and a special policy advisor to the UN Secretary-General.

In particular, Ambassador Kang was the person who oversaw South Korean diplomacy during the dialogue between the United States and North Korea from 2018 to 2019 when he was Foreign Minister, and he said, "There is a possibility that dialogue between the United States and North Korea will resume."
