Actor Lee Jung-jae became the first Korean to win the Chaplin Awards.
According to the company, Lee Jung-jae was the recipient of the Charlie Chaplin Awards Asia held in Singapore the previous day.
The Charlie Chaplin Awards are presented annually by the Lincoln Center Film Institute in New York.
This award is for distinguished service to the film industry. It was established to commemorate the return of former British actor Charlie Chaplin to the United States in 1972 after his exile.
Since the Asia category was established in 2018, An Tsin, Zhang Yimou, and Lin Zhenhe have been honored with the award.
This is the first time that a Korean has won the award. The management office said, "The organizers hope that Lee Jung-jae will be able to connect with audiences around the world in Asia through his works.
"I have selected him as the recipient of the award in recognition of his lasting and positive influence on the art of film," Lee Jung-jae said.
"Receiving this award in my name makes me feel even more nervous and shaken by the weight of it," he said, adding, "Now that I have received this award, I will do my best to have a positive influence as an Asian filmmaker."
Lee Jung-jae, who successfully completed the "Squid Game" series this year, will reunite with viewers in the tvNTV series "Hateful Love," which will premiere on November 3rd.
