This work is based on the real-life figure of Jeong Woo-ji from the Joseon period, a hero who punished corrupt authorities and saved the people.
"Jung Woo Ji" is a fantasy drama that reinterprets the story of the late 19th century with a modern sensibility. "Jung Woo Ji" is a new attempt by the Seoul Arts Company as a narrative of a "Korean-style K-superhero" that combines mythical imagination with modern emotions.
The story centers on the hero's determination to stand up against injustice despite the fact that his dreams will never come true, and depicts the journey of the human Jung Woo-chi as he grows into a hero.
The main character, Jung Woo Ji, is an "imperfect hero" who fails and wavers, but fights to the end, asking the audience about the meaning of justice and courage.
The stage is set around the core concept of "illusion," and is a unique space where reality and fantasy coexist. World-renowned illusionist Lee Eun-gyeol is the magical scene director.
The production will feature a cast of actors, including actors from around the world, who will be participating in the production, blending magic into the emotion and narrative of the play, while the visual design, which utilizes images from traditional folk tales, Taoism, and beliefs in the afterlife, will complete the mystical stage.
Composer Hwang Ho-jun has combined traditional rhythms with modern sounds to musically embody JungWoo Ji's inner world.
Lee Han-soo from Seoul Arts Troupe and Song Dong-woon from the group Highlight will play the role of Jung Woo Ji, each showing off their own unique charms as heroes.
Choi In-hyun will play Seo Hwa-dam, Lee Eun-sol will play Goo Mi-ho, and Geum Seung-hoon will play Ok Hwang-sang-jae.
The performance will be held at the CJ Towol Theater in the Seoul Arts Center from October 25th to November 2nd, and will feature members of the troupe, along with dancers Choi Gyu-tae, Kwon Yo-han, and Kim Min-seok.
