South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on the 21st told Sanae Takaichi, the newly elected prime minister of the Liberal Democratic Party, "I would like to meet you in person at the APEC summit to be held in Gyeongju soon."

President Lee said, "As neighboring countries that share the same garden, Korea and Japan have developed cooperative relations in various fields, including politics, security, economy, society and culture, and people-to-people exchanges."
"We are at a critical turning point that will mark a new 60 years of Korea-Japan relations," he said. "In an international situation with unprecedented uncertainty, the importance of Korea-Japan relations has also increased more than ever before.
"At this critical time, I would like to work with the Prime Minister to further strengthen future-oriented coexistence and cooperation between our two countries and among our peoples," he added.
He added, "I hope that the two leaders can meet frequently and communicate based on shuttle diplomacy."
