SBS's new Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘Dynamite Kiss’, which premiered on 12th November, recorded a viewership rating of 4.9% in the Seoul metropolitan area and 4.5% nationwide. (Based on Nielsen Korea)
‘Dynamite Kiss’ stars Gong Ji-hyuk (Jang Ki-yong) and Ko Da-rim (Ahn Eun-jin), whose lives couldn't be more different. Job-hunting graduate Da-rim endured each day as a test of endurance. Even when her only sister, ashamed of her job-hunting older sister, gave her a Jeju Island travel voucher and told her not to come to her wedding, Da-rim forced herself to smile and appear cheerful. Conversely, Ji-hyuk was a man capable enough to pull off an enormous project, yet one who didn't believe in love.
These two visited Jeju Island for entirely different reasons. Ji-hyuk went to scout Kim Jong-kwon (Park Young-woo), while Da-rim went to avoid her brother's wedding. However, Jong-kwon was Darim's ex-boyfriend, the very man who had once dumped her by comparing her to "boiled spinach". Seeing Jong-kwon with a friend she'd met by chance during the trip, who had become that friend's lover, wounded Darim's pride. She lied that she too had come travelling with her boyfriend, then drank bitterly alone.
Later, Darim mistakenly believed Ji-hyuk was about to jump from a cliff and tightly embraced him from behind. Startled, Ji-hyuk caught the falling Darim, but they both toppled over. Afterwards, Ji-hyuk left the sleeping Darim alone at the hospital. Waking up late, Darim found herself penniless, having paid for Ji-hyuk's medical bills too.
The next morning, as Ji-hyuk and Darim faced each other in the hotel dining room, Darim's friend couple also appeared. They had been staying at the same hotel. Darim, once again for the sake of pride, hooked her arm through Ji-hyuk's and lied, "This is my boyfriend." Ji-hyuk, needing to scout Jong-kwon, saw this situation as an opportunity and asked Darim to pretend to be his 'fake girlfriend'. He then transformed Darim into a stunning beauty in the blink of an eye, even putting a ring on her finger.
Jong-kwon was astonished to see Darim, transformed beyond recognition. He began to doubt that Dal-im could possibly be dating someone as wonderful as Ji-hyuk. Nervously worried that their fake relationship might be exposed, Dal-im kissed Ji-hyuk to deceive Jong-kwon as he approached. It was an unavoidable choice, but this kiss was nothing short of an 'earth-shattering event' for both of them. It delivered a dynamite-like shock, especially to Ji-hyuk, who had never believed in love.
Ji-hyuk grabbed Dal-im, who was forcing herself to act as if nothing had happened, saying, "Still better than being found out, right?" He then declared, "Shall we do it again? That just now, let's do it one more time!" and suddenly drew close to her, pressing a powerful kiss upon her. Accompanied by Ji-hyuk's heart-fluttering narration, "That night, we were nitric acid and sulphuric acid, and our kiss was dynamite," the first episode of 'Dynamite Kiss' drew to a close.
