They talked about what went on behind the scenes and the bond between the members. Q. You made a comeback after three years and also came to Japan. How was it?
HYEBIN: I always feel excited and happy when I come to Japan. Even at this concert, I was so happy to see all the fans.
I was really happy that they were able to liven up the atmosphere so well. It was great to see everyone in Japan on stage after such a long time, and every time I come here I feel great and my heart is filled with joy.
Q. I'm sure meeting your Japanese fans is what you're most looking forward to, but is there anything else you're looking forward to about coming to Japan?
NANCY: I really wanted to eat Japanese food!
Every time I come to Japan with the members, we always eat delicious food together.
I've been eating there for a while, so I wanted to eat a variety of things with everyone again this time like in the past. Also, I'm really interested in Harajuku and Shibuya in Tokyo, not just Yokohama, so I'd like to go there.
Q. I'd like to ask you about your new song "RODEO". When you started your activities this time, you must have been worried about what song to make your comeback with.
HYEBIN: It was the first time we did a blind test. AHIN: That's right. When selecting songs, we had a few candidates.
Since I was there, we did a blind test. The members then ranked the songs from 1st to 6th, and the song that received the most votes was "RODEO." Personally, I think "
When I first heard "RODEO," my impression was that it was actually second place. HYEBIN: So that's being revealed here (laughs). Did all the members get second place?
NANCY: I'm number one. JOOE: I'm number one too! NANCY and JOOE are number one, and the rest of the members are number two.
AHIN: I ranked it second, but when I first heard it, I felt it was very "MOMOLAND"-like.
I thought that they would end up doing this song. So when "RODEO" was chosen, I thought, "Ah, I knew it" (laughs). The song I chose as number one was "W
It was a song with a bright atmosphere, similar to "Wonderful Love." Q. JANE participated in writing the lyrics for RODEO. How did they come about?
JANE: Usually when I write lyrics, I listen to the song over and over and write down all the keywords that come to mind. Then, I gradually expand the lyrics based on those keywords.
This time, there were many composers and lyricists involved, so it felt like we were all exchanging opinions and creating the song.
When I was there, I had this "fate-like certainty" that "it would definitely become our song," but at the time I wasn't that "I really want to do it!"
I didn't think so. But now I like it. All the members recorded it themselves, and I'm happy to perform it on stage like this.
NANCY: What was really strange was that when we did the blind test, we chose the songs without knowing who wrote them.
JOOE: I found out right before the comeback. NANCY: Why didn't you tell me? JANE: I was a little embarrassed. NANCY: (In Japanese) Kawaii. Q.
Do you have any set rules when writing lyrics? JANE: I don't really have any rules, but I feel like I think about them the most right before I go to sleep.
There are times when you feel a bit sleepy and your mind becomes hazy. At those times, even though you don't seem to be thinking about anything, various ideas come to you randomly.
I feel like I can get my work done or my thoughts done the best. I like it at night because it makes me more sensitive and my thoughts go deeper. NANCY: Wow, that's strange. Q.
Are the other members interested in writing lyrics? JANE: JOOE has also been writing lyrics recently.
JOOE: Actually, I've been writing it down in a notebook since my debut. But no one knows (laughs). I've never shown it to anyone.
Q. "RODEO" is a song about the energy that allows you to keep running strong even in the tiring days of everyday life, but what is the source of that energy for you?
NANCY: I think the source of our energy is definitely our Merry fans. It was our first comeback in 3 years and 8 months, so we were really happy.
I had very few opportunities to meet all the Merry members, and I was always lonely. But now that I've made a comeback with "RODEO," I've been able to meet all the Korean Merry members, and I've been able to meet all the Japanese Merry members.
I'm really happy to be able to meet all the members of erry. They've been supporting us so much, and we've been checking them all out and saying, "Thanks to the members of erry, we've been given so much strength."
Q. Is there any kind of magic spell you do when you want to calm your mind or concentrate?
JOOE: First of all, I like to relieve my physical fatigue.
There is a scented one that has a citrus-like aroma, and when I put it near my nose, it makes my head feel refreshed, so I use it often. I also use it to put in refreshing eye drops and to gently loosen my neck and shoulders.
By improving my physical condition, my mind naturally becomes more balanced.
AHIN: This was my first time on stage in a while, so it was a lot more fun than I expected.
I was nervous. Before going on stage, a lot of anxiety and worry pops into your head, right? At times like that, I use "self-suggestion"
I am the type of person who puts a lot of effort into my work. I have to let go of the feeling that I have to do it well and just think, "I'm doing this now."
I try to prioritize whether I am enjoying the performance or not. Rather than making small mistakes like "Did I miss a note?" or "I could have done better...", I try to think "I am enjoying the performance."
Did I enjoy this moment 100%? Did I concentrate on this stage properly? If I try to focus on these two things, my mind will calm down. Thanks to that, I can enjoy the stage more.
Q. November 10th marks the 9th anniversary of your company. What memories come to mind?
JOOE: When we did fancon, fan meetings and tours in Japan, there were times when only fans, that is, Merry, were on stage.
It was truly my first time. I still remember that time vividly, and I would like to experience that feeling again.
HYEBIN: This is my first fan meeting. Just like the Japan tour,
It was my first time experiencing a fan meeting, so it left a strong impression on me. AHIN: When I first arrived in Japan, I was at the airport and met my fans for the first time.
That is what I remember most. In Japan, everyone at Merry welcomed us so warmly, and the first impression we got when we arrived was at the airport. We were always welcomed by Merry.
I still feel very happy when I remember that. NANCY: I was a High Five fan. At that time, I was able to meet my fans up close, and for a little while,
But I was impressed by the fact that we were able to talk and interact with each other. The atmosphere of the fans is different in each city, and seeing them cheering for us in person gave me even more energy.
I am filled with gratitude for being able to receive such memories. It is a truly moving memory. NAYUN: Of course, all the memories that the members mentioned are memorable.
However, as this is our first comeback in 3 years and 8 months, the process of preparing for this activity with all the members felt especially memorable.
I was very happy. Q. What is the moment when you feel the love and consideration of the members? NANCY: When they say "You're cute." JANE: Do you love me?
NANCY: (jokingly) Just a little (laughs) JANE: (laughs) If you had said "yes," I would have said "right now" (laughs).
JOOE: When I have a problem, I have to wait a long time, and we are often together all day, but at times like that, the members are there for me directly.
They may solve your problems or listen to you. You can confide in them things that you can't even tell your family, and when that happens, you feel closer to them and like they're your family, and that's when you really feel loved.
HYEBIN: When he contacts me on his day off and says "I'm bored" or "I want to see you." At that moment, I feel that he is thinking about me even in his everyday life.
Sharing interesting things and things they like on social media, and knowing and sharing what they like, are moments when they feel loved. I think it's really cute.
AHIN: Rather than just when we all get together, when members go abroad, I buy small souvenirs thinking, "I wonder if the members will be happy?"
I think it's a wonderful feeling to receive such kind consideration. When I receive such thoughtfulness, I feel loved. Each member is considerate and even prepares lunch boxes and presents carefully.
I was also really happy that they wrapped it up nicely. NAYUN: I feel happy when we are all together. Especially when we all eat delicious food together.
It's the happiest moment. Sharing food together and sharing that moment makes me feel so happy and warm. It's not so much love, but just enjoying the same time together.
It naturally makes us feel like we care about each other. NANCY: It tastes even better when we eat together. HYEBIN: When we're together, we look at the menu and decide what to order.
It's fun when we decide on a menu and order a variety of dishes to share. AHIN: We have similar tastes, we like spicy food, and we all really love Japanese food.
JOOE: Basically, we all love sushi. JANE: Also, when we came to Japan recently, we all went to a sukiyaki restaurant, and all the members were amazing.
AHIN: The sushi restaurant that Jane recommended was surprisingly delicious.
NANCY: It's really really delicious (making a heart). I'm also planning to go to a sushi restaurant this time, so I'm looking forward to it. Q
Is there a style or concept of music you would like to try in the future? JOOE: We have done a lot of bright, emotional songs and powerful songs so far. So next time, we would like to try something more.
I would like to try making a bright and fun song that is refreshing and cool. Q. Is there a catchphrase for MOMOLAND like "Kazua"?
JANE: This has been around for a really long time, but in Korea, when you toast you say "Chang." Our debut song was "JJan! Koong!"
The title is "Kwang!", so when we toast, someone says "JJan!", and then the other person says "Koong!", "Kwang!". That's us.
It's just a little bit of a catchphrase, and my friends often use it too. AHIN: Even when we're not around, my friends often use it, and I think that in the future, when they become adults, they'll use it too.
Merry, an adult who is familiar with the subject, would like to use "JJan! Koong! Kwang!" JANE: "JJan! Koong!
When you play "Kwang!", be careful not to get too excited and break the glass (laughs). Q. If you were to create a "-land", what kind of land would you like it to be?
JANE: I'll choose "Healing Land." The original group name "MOMOLAND" means to give healing to tired people, so I hope that when you're tired, you'll feel refreshed after listening to our songs.
I want to continue making songs that are soothing even when you're listening to them. JOOE: I'll call it "Food Land." I get excited when I talk about food (laughs). I really love eating.
JANE: (To NAYUN who is worried) How about "Longevity Land"? NAYUN: Then let's call it "Longevity Land" (laughs). That way we and our fans can spend a long time together.
I want to make it a place where we can continue to perform live and sing for our fans. HYEBIN: "Merryland." I hope that everyone who meets us will have a happy life.
I want to make it a place where everyone can feel happy. NANCY: I want to make it a "Happy Land." A place where everyone, both members and fans, can be happy.
AHIN: We'll make it "Kawaii Land." Merry and all of us are cute, so we can spend our time here in a cute and fun environment.
I want to make it a place like this. Q. Please tell us about your future plans. HYEBIN: I had a lot of fun when we toured before, so I want to do more tours in the future.
I would also like to perform on a larger scale, with more people, in more places, and create opportunities to meet more fans not only in Japan, but all over the world, both domestically and overseas.
JOOE: I think I'll probably come to Japan often. AHIN: I'd like to come to Japan a lot. HYEBIN: Should I reserve a place to live in Japan?
