Summary&Synopsis
Land of Happiness (Korean: 행복의 나라) is a movie. Its Korean release date is 2024-08-14. Its running time is 124 minutes.
This is a Hot Topic production about the assassination of President Park Chung-hee, which will be the last work of actor Lee Sun Kyun! On October 26, 1979, the president was assassinated.
"A trial is not about deciding who is right and who is wrong," says lawyer In-hoo (Cho Jung-Seok), a leading expert on lovers' quarrels in the courtroom.
He takes on the defense of Tae-joo (Lee Sun Kyun), an assistant secretary to the head of the intelligence department who was involved in the assassination of the president.
He is thrown into the worst political trial in South Korea, and In-hoo will stop at nothing to ensure that Tae-ju, whose sentence will be carried out on the first try due to his military status, receives a fair trial.
"You want me to sell off the chief to buy you?" 30 minutes before the incident, Tae-ju received an order from the head of the intelligence department to subdue the guards if anything happened.
The main issue in court is whether Tae-ju's actions were "conspiracy beforehand to start a civil war, or obedience to orders under duress." In-hoo suggests that Tae-ju give evidence that would get him out of the situation, but Tae-ju says that he cannot betray his faith.
Meanwhile, the case has given the joint investigation team's chief, Sang-doo (You Chae Myung), a dangerous ambition.
He attends the trial as if to tease the overconfident In-hoo, and gives real-time notes to the court, effectively influencing the outcome of the trial.
The Korean film "Happy Country" depicts an army colonel who was a confidant of Kim Jae-kyu, the man who masterminded the assassination of the president, and participated in the launch of the campaign, as well as the lawyer who handled his arguments.
