Park Hyung Sik will play the ambitious hacker So in the SBS TV series "Treasure Island," which is scheduled to premiere on February 14th in Korea.
He will meet viewers as Dong-ju. In the teaser video released earlier, Park Hyung Sik showed off his extraordinary acting skills with a cold and dark side that is completely different from his previous image.
The transformation was teased, building up anticipation. Park Hyung Sik said about the production, "I think each of us has our own 'treasure island.'
However, when faced with the threat of their "treasure island" being taken by someone else, how violent, vile, and cruel can they be?
"I think this is a film that shows how people can become so vicious," he said. "In the process, incidents occur due to the clash of personal desires and ambitions. While filming this film, I was thinking about what my 'treasure island' is and what it can do to them."
"I thought a lot about whether I should live my life with a goal in mind," he said. Park Hyung Sik said he hopes this drama will be a turning point for him as an actor.
He said, "I thought there was a fixed perception and image of Park Hyung Sik as an actor, so when I got this production, I was very surprised.
"I was curious about what the director saw in me during the meeting, and I was grateful," he said, "It is an actor's calling to show various sides of himself, but the timing never seemed to suit me, and I had a hard time finding the kind of work I wanted to do."
However, now that I've served in the military and gotten older, I thought I could finally show a new side of myself." Park Hyung Sik said about the character of Seo Dong-ju that he played.
"I thought Seo Dong-ju was an arrogant person with a special memory called photo memory. He's a confident person who tries to use his abilities to realize his ambitions.
However, he's smart but not clever, so he sometimes gets into trouble," he said, explaining the character.
Regarding his goals and direction as an actor, he said, "I want to work on the film 'Split' directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
I want to be an actor who breaks down and surpasses the fixed image of himself, like James McAvoy. I thought his portrayal of multiple personalities in 'Split' was truly astounding."
"I want to be an actor who is always pursuing new things. I have the most fun and feel most alive when I push myself to expand the boundaries of my experiences and emotions," he said, showing his passion for acting.
Meanwhile, "Treasure Island" is scheduled to premiere in Korea on February 14th at 10 p.m.
