South Korean virtual currency exchange GDAC has revealed that 23% of its assets, or about 18 billion won (about 1.8 billion yen), have been stolen due to a hack.
Peertec, which operates the G-Digital Exchange, issued an emergency notice saying that it would fully protect all of its customers' assets.
It will take about two weeks for DAC to resume operations." Prior to this, at around 7 a.m. on the 9th, the hot wallet that stores customers' virtual assets at GDAC was hacked, and some of the assets were stolen.
The crypto assets that were stolen were approximately 60 Bitcoin (BTC), 350 Ethereum (ETH), and 10 million Wimic.
The amount was about 220,000 Tether (USDT) for WEMIX. Piatek said, "Thanks to timely reports and cooperation from domestic and international institutions, we have found that many of the illegally transferred virtual currencies have not yet been converted into cash.
"We have been able to confirm this through on-chain data," he said, adding, "Our employees, who had taken pride in our record of zero hacks or financial incidents, felt a sense of shock, emptiness, and confusion as a result of this incident.
However, the entire company arrived early in the morning on the weekend and is working day and night, with cooperation from agencies both in Korea and abroad, to do everything in its power to resolve the case."
