The drama Jun Kissa Inyeon is set in a retro café on the edge of a shopping street and tells the story of the handsome Korean master Siu and the people who visit him. At Inyeon, there is a mysterious rumour that "severed ties can be reconnected", and customers who are thinking of someone they want to reunite with visit with a common goal.
The role of Master Siu is played by Hwang Chan-sung (2PM), who made his acting debut in South Korea in 2006 and has been extremely popular in Japan since his debut as a member of 2PM in 2008. This film is his first drama starring in Japan.
This event was advertised as a preview event and was held at the popular café ROZI coffee in Shin-Okubo, inviting a large number of applicants by drawing lots. A preview of the first episode and a novelty gift were announced in advance, but as a surprise, lead actor Hwang Chang-sung appeared on stage for a talk show with director Kazuhiro Kobayashi, moderated by Ken Higashinaka (Fuji TV announcer).
Chan-sung's surprise appearance was met with cheers from the audience, and some fans were in tears of joy. At the beginning of the show, Chan-sung said smiling at fans, "Were you surprised? The surprise was successful! But don't cry. Let's laugh!"
When asked how he felt about accepting the role, he replied: "It was last year when I got the offer to act in the drama, and I was just thinking about my solo career in Japan and what kind of activities I should do when I heard about this drama. I was thinking about what kind of activities I was going to do when I heard about this drama."
Director Kobayashi also commented on his impression of Chan-sung: "He is a very nice person! I think everyone knows that he's a nice young man, and he looks at things very straight-forwardly. He asked me questions kindly, and I answered them kindly. On the other hand, Director Kobayashi's impression of him was: "From the first time I met him, when I asked him questions about things I wanted to know, he answered them politely. I was glad that they were kind to each other (laughs)."
When asked if it was difficult for him to play the role of a coffee shop master, he replied: 'It wasn't that difficult. He replied: 'It wasn't that hard...' (audience laughed). But the filming period was short, so I made an effort to get used to the atmosphere on the set. As a master, I practised making coffee so that it looked natural, but I couldn't practise at home at all. I don't have a siphon or flannel drip machine (at home). I made the coffee after arriving on set and crunching the beans (laughs). I was a master from day one!"
As for the difficult phrases in Japanese, he mentioned the line in the second episode, which he struggled to pronounce naturally: "If two people want to reconnect with each other, they can never be cut off". I think that line is one of the things this drama is trying to say.
When asked if they had felt a 'connection' recently, Director Kobayashi replied, "This is the third film I've worked with producer Tabuchi and scriptwriter Toyama-san on, and we're still working together. I feel that the fact that we met and continue to work together now is also a kind of fate." Chan-sung said: "The members are the biggest connection in my life. My life has changed because of them. It's '2PM'!" He also expressed his gratitude to the group."
About his role as Siu, he says: "I'm a master of a coffee shop, so I listen to what the customers have to say, and its not good if the master talks a lot... (laughs) Basically, I'm a person who listens, so it was difficult to act that way. What do you do in this situation? I consulted with the director about various things, and when the audience was talking seriously, I would listen to them while also doing other tasks."
When asked by Director Kobayashi if Chan-sung and Siu were similar, he replied "I felt that they were similar to Siu. In episode 1, he ended up as a mysterious person, but in episodes 2, 3 and 4, he gradually gets more and more lines! It's all right! I hope you all keep watching!" Chan-sung made the audience laugh by saying, "When I looked at the script for episode 1, there were only... lines..."
Finally, Chan-sung said, "I really enjoyed filming this episode, so please look forward to episode 4! and the event ended on a high note. The audience was thrilled by the unexpected surprise of a novelty present handed to them by Chan-sung.
The ROZI coffee where the event was held is currently running a collaboration project from the 27th March (Wed) to the 7th April (Sun), where panels introducing the drama will be displayed and original cup sleeves will be distributed to those who purchase drinks from the menu. The distribution will end as soon as all the sleeves are gone, as quantities are limited.
In addition, the original soundtrack of the drama 'Jun Kissa Inyeon' will be released. It contains a total of six songs with warm and sad melodies by Kanno Mizuki and will be available from the 30th March.
